All about Hue Secure
How do I get started with Hue Secure?
Get everything you need to set up a smart home security system with a starter kit. You’ll get all the best features at the best value — and instant peace of mind for your home and your wallet.
How does the Hue home security system work and what do I need?
The Hue Secure home setup is designed to work with all your Hue lights and products around the home. Lights can become part of a light alarm, which you can trigger after receiving a motion alert from a Secure camera or contact sensor.
To take full advantage of Hue home security, you’ll need a selection of Hue smart lights and a Hue Bridge. The Bridge gives you the full suite of smart features for your Secure setup — light alarms, automations, and more — as well as the ability to expand your home security (or smart lighting!) setup.
The Security Center in the Hue app lets you take control of every part of your smart security system from anywhere with an internet connection. With just a tap, you can arm or disarm your system, grant permissions to members of your home — or just check to see whether you left the back door open.
Is my personal data safe with secure cameras?
Secure cameras use end-to-end encryption, ensuring your data is yours and yours only. Nobody, including any third parties, can see or access any data that travels between the Hue app on your smartphone and your Secure cameras at home.
What is the battery life of the Hue Secure camera?
The experienced battery life of the hue camera depends on many factors such as temperature, age of the product, average clip length and number of events per day. Cold temperatures, long clips and total number of events per day negatively effect battery life.
Under typical usage at 20 degrees Celsius with 10 wake ups per day resulting in 10 clips with an average duration of 10s the expected battery life is 3 months.
To improve battery life we recommend to only arm the camera when you want to generate events and that you ensure its field of view does not cover busy areas which cause frequent wake ups. The wakeup of the camera is with an passive infrared sensor so even if there are activity zones or blackout zones the camera may wake up even if it does not record any clips. You can also improve battery life by reducing motion sensitivity and reducing maximum clip length.
Does the Secure camera support two-way talk?
Yes! A microphone and speaker are built in to the camera, allowing you to communicate with visitors.
How do I mount the Secure contact sensor?
Mount the sensor using the included adhesive. Peel off the backing and stick it to a flat surface.
Can I use the Secure contact sensor outdoors?
The Secure contact sensor is designed for indoor use only.
