How to upgrade to the Hue Bridge Pro
Upgrading to the Hue Bridge Pro? This guide walks you through everything you need to know about migrating from your current Hue Bridge(s) to a Hue Bridge Pro.
We recently launched support for migrating multiple Bridges to a single Bridge Pro. Whether you’ve been waiting for this to be available to set up your Bridge Pro, or whether you already migrated a first Bridge and now want to migrate additional ones, please follow the steps below.
Onboard your Bridge Pro
Ready to get started with your Bridge Pro? Just follow the steps in the link to complete your onboarding and unlock its full potential.
Getting started with migration for the first time
Once you onboard your Bridge Pro via the Hue app, you’ll be prompted to migrate content from your existing Bridge(s). You can choose to migrate immediately, or – if you don't have time, or your system isn't ready to migrate yet – you can postpone it. Please keep in mind that different conditions apply for the first Bridge you migrate vs. any additional Bridges. More details can be found in the “What will be migrated” section.
If you need to migrate your Bridges at a later stage, you can do so by going to Settings > Bridges > “[Bridge name]” > Migrate.
Migrating additional bridges
If you’ve already migrated one Bridge to your Bridge Pro, or if you stopped the process while onboarding it and want to continue, you can migrate these additional Bridges by going to Settings > Bridges > “[Bridge name]” > Migrate and following the steps indicated there.
What will be migrated
Which content gets migrated will depend on how many Bridges you choose to migrate, and whether your Bridge Pro is empty, or you want to add content from an additional Bridge to it.
The important distinction is that the first Bridge that gets migrated into an empty Bridge Pro will have all of its content moved automatically to the Bridge Pro. For the additional Bridges you migrate to the Bridge Pro, some but not all content will be moved automatically, so you might need to take action to recreate it.
Please note that any content you already have on your Bridge Pro will not be affected if you migrate additional Bridges to it.
The full breakdown of what will and won’t be migrated is found below:

What you need to know before migration
- Admin rights: Only the admin can migrate to Bridge Pro.
- One account & home: Your Bridge Pro and any Bridges you migrate from must be linked to the same account and Home and with latest software version. The app will guide you on how to proceed if this applies to you.
- App usage: Keep the Hue app open and your phone unlocked during migration (particularly when requested by the app). If your phone battery is low, consider keeping it plugged in to a charger. The migration process is expected to take 30–60 minutes per Bridge, including any possible after-care actions you might need to take.
- Lights & smart plugs: These devices will turn off and then on again to confirm the completed migration.
- Device control: Limited functionality is expected, and devices will be unreachable during migration. Avoid modifying the content of your Bridges during migration, whether it be via the Hue app, third-party apps, or other integrations.
- Security system: Your security system will be disarmed during migration. You can re-arm manually (and reconfigure, if needed) afterwards.

Post-migration steps
Old Bridge: Once migration is confirmed, reset your old Bridge(s) to factory defaults. This will help some entertainment and smart home integrations reconnect better and will make your Bridge(s) reusable by others (if necessary).
Product compatibility
All Philips Hue products that work with the Hue Bridge are supported by the new Bridge Pro. The Hue Bridge Pro uses the latest Trust Center based security systems in the ZigBee standard, which may limit compatibility with some legacy products.
Non-Philips Hue Zigbee products are supported if they support ZigBee Trust Center based networks which are supported in (modern) ZigBee 3.0, (legacy) ZigBee Home Automation versions of the standard. Legacy products based on ZigBee SmartLink or ZigBee LightLink (including some pre-Philips Hue products from Philips, commonly referred to as Living Colors or Living Whites) do not support this mode and are not supported. If migrating from a Hue Bridge in which these products would be present, the app will inform the user before any changes are made.
Additionally, third party lights and our very first generation of products cannot be optimized for performance in large systems beyond 50 lights, so the user experience might vary in these types of setups.
