Perifo track lighting is modular in design, meaning that it’s made up of building blocks. Create a custom look by building your own smart track lighting kit, based on the shape you want.

How to build a custom track lighting kit
To use this guide, start by thinking big. Determine the shape of your track lighting and where the power is in your ceiling (or wall!). Then, add the components you need to your cart.

Choose the shape and color
The shape and color determine what you need. Consider the placement of your wiring, and whether you want to install your track lighting on the ceiling or wall.

Add the components
Under each shape is a list of parts you’ll need (rails, power supply unit, and connectors). Add those to your cart, along with extra rails if you want to extend the length of your track lighting.

Add the lights
Choose from pendants, spotlights, light tubes, and light bars. How many you can add depends on the length of your track lighting and the total wattage of the lights.
Choose the shape
You can create any shape you like, but here are the most common configurations. Find a shape that works in your room, see which components you need, and then create your own custom track lighting kit.
Want to go bigger? Use a straight connector in any configuration to connect additional rails.

Choose the track lights
The number and type of track lights for your custom track lighting kit depends on two things: 1) the available space on the rails and 2) the total wattage of the lights, which can go up to 100 W. Pick the lights you want, and then add up their length (don’t forget to account for connectors and PSUs!) and wattage to see which ones will fit on your configuration.
Questions & answers
Is track lighting good for a kitchen?
Yes! Track lighting can go anywhere you like, including your kitchen. And with Perifo, you’re able to customize it exactly to your needs. For example, place spotlights aimed at your workspace to ensure you have enough light to cut food and prep your meal. If your track lighting extends to over a dining table, place pendant lights over it to set the mood for your meal!
Where should I install a track lighting kit?
It depends! Track lighting can provide a lot of light, so they’re often used in larger spaces such as the living room or kitchen. Because Perifo is completely customizable, you can create smaller track lighting kits for smaller rooms such as the bedroom.
Are there premade Philips Hue track lighting kits?
Yes! There are dozens of premade Philips Hue Perifo track lighting kits that contain everything you need, including rails, power supply units, lights, and connectors. Browse the collection of track lighting kits.
Is Perifo a dimmable LED track lighting kit?
Yes! All Philips Hue lights are dimmable LED lights, giving you bright, smooth dimming lights for any rooms.
How do I know how many rails and connectors I need?
It depends on the size and shape of your space. Check out our Guide to Perifo track lighting to learn more about designing your set-up.
What shapes can I create with Perifo track lighting?
Perifo track lighting lets you make a variety of shapes. Set it up in a straight line, an L-shape, a U-shape, T-shape, Z-shape and more! If you can dream it, you can design it. With a flexible connector, you can even create a ceiling-to-wall or wall-to-ceiling setup.
Do I need a Hue Bridge to use Perifo track lighting?
You don't need a Bridge to control Perifo. You can control Perifo track lighting with Bluetooth, or add a Bridge to unlock the full suite of smart lighting features.
How does Perifo track lighting connect to power?
Perifo track lighting lets you make any number of shapes. Set it up in a straight line, an L-shape, a U-shape or any other shape that includes 90-degree angles. If you can dream it, you can design it!
Where can I install Perifo track lighting?
Perifo track lighting can be installed on the ceiling or the wall. Power supply units made for the ceiling wire into your home's electricity, while power supply units made for the wall plug into a plug socket.
Where can I put the power supply unit for Perifo track lighting?
Perifo track lighting has three types of power supply units:
1-point PSU: This power supply unit is placed at the end of a rail on the ceiling.
2-point PSU: This power supply unit is placed between two rails on the ceiling.
1-point PSU with plug: This power supply unit is plugged into a plug socket.
Choose the power supply units based on where you want to set up and power Perifo track lighting.
Can I use other Philips Hue lights with Perifo track lighting?
Perifo track lighting only works with Perifo lights.
Can I mount the ceiling power supply unit on the wall or the wall power supply unit to the ceiling?
Yes. Though the power supply units were designed for either the wall or ceiling, if you have an electrical box on your wall, you can use the ceiling power supply unit. Conversely, if you have a plug socket on your ceiling, you can use the wall power supply unit.
Can I create a Perifo setup that has multiple power supply units so that I can power more than 100 W of lights?
Perifo was designed to work with a single power supply unit. Using more than one PSU is not supported. If you want to create a setup with more than 100 W of lights, use two separate setups placed next to each other but not connected to each other.
Can I make a Perifo track lighting kit an even bigger track lighting setting by adding more lights or rails?
Yes! Perifo track lighting is customizable, meaning you can set it up any way you like. Track lighting kits come with a full setup, but if you want to extend your rails or add more lights, you can order additional separate parts in the Hue shop.
Can I create a ceiling-to-wall setup with Perifo track lighting?
Yes! You can use a flexible connector to run the rails from the ceiling and wall.
Do connectors take up space on the rail?
Yes. Each type of connector takes up a different amount of space on the rails:
Straight connector: Takes up 5 cm of space on each of the two rails that it joins together, totaling 10 cm.
Corner connector: Takes up 6.6 cm of space on each of the two rails that it joins together, totaling 13.2 cm.
Flexible connector: Takes up 8.8 cm of space on each of the two rails that it joins together, totaling 17.6 cm, and adds up to 3.5 cm to the total length of the track depending on the angle at which you install it.
T connector: Takes up 12.1 cm on the two parallel rails it connects, 12.6 cm on the third rail it connects, totaling about 37 cm, and adds 3 cm to the total length of the track.
Where should I place the power supply unit in a T-shaped track lighting setup?
Depending on which type of power supply unit you get, you can place a Perifo power supply unit at the end of any rail, between any two rails, or, alternatively, plug it into the wall.
Does the flexible connector require any installation, or can I click it into the rails?
Like the other Perifo connectors, the flexible connector simply clicks into the rails. Note that you'll need to loosen the rail from the wall/ceiling to be able to fit the connector into it. Alternatively, you can add the connector before installing the rail.
