Accessibility Statement for The Philips Hue Shop

At Philips Hue, we believe everyone should have equal access to our e-commerce services, no matter their abilities. That’s why we’re working hard to make sure our shop and e-commerce services are accessible. We strive to follow the standards set out in the WCAG 2.2 level AA guidelines and the European Accessibility Act. Here’s how:

1. Information about the functionality of our e-commerce services

  • Keyboard accessibility: Users with motor impairments can navigate our shop and complete purchases using a keyboard. We’ve ensured that all links, buttons, and forms are fully accessible without needing a mouse, a pointer, or another device.
  • Clear tab order: We’ve organized the tab order logically so that users relying on keyboard control can easily navigate through the shop.
  • Focus states: We’ve implemented focus states for all interactive elements so that all users — including users with visual or cognitive impairments — can easily identify which element is active.

2. Presentation of information in accessible formats

  • Skip-to-content buttons: The user interface offers skip-to-content buttons, so users relying on keyboard control or screen readers can easily skip repetitive content and jump to more relevant sections easier.
  • Descriptive image text: Most product and editorial images include a description, so blind and visually impaired users who rely on a screen reader can understand what’s being conveyed.

3. Readability enhancements

  • Color contrast: We have changed our primary color to meet contrast requirements so that visually impaired users can navigate and understand our content.
  • Adjustable font sizes: Users can change the text size via their browser settings. We’ve switched to relative font sizes so that this works smoothly.

We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing process, and we are committed to making steady improvements. Our approach to accessibility includes the following guiding principles:

  • Perceivable: Provide features such as alternative text for images, proper contrast, and images presented in text format.
  • Operable: Ensure our website is navigable using assistive technologies and keyboards.
  • Understandable: Ensure our website is simple to use and offers clear instructions and consistent layouts.
  • Robust: Build the website to work well with the latest assistive technologies and devices.
