What do I need to use a Hue contact sensor?

The Hue Secure contact sensor requires a Hue Bridge-controlled Hue setup, as well as the Hue app. If you wish to control your lights then you also need at least one Philips Hue light (sold separately). If you wish to use your sensor for security monitoring, then lights are recommended but not required.
Can I customize how my lights turn on when triggered by a Hue Secure contact sensor?

Yes. You can customize Hue Secure contact sensors to trigger different light scenes per room/zone you've selected.
How many Hue lights can I control with the Hue Secure contact sensors? 

A Hue Secure contact sensor can control up to three Rooms, a Zone, or even your entire smart lighting setup. It’s up to you! If you prefer to control only a subset of lights within a Room, we recommend first creating a Zone out of them, to get the most flexibility in terms of creating and selecting scenes for them
How can I add my Hue Secure contact sensor to my Hue setup?

You can add a Hue Secure contact sensor to your setup by going to the Hue App > Settings > Devices and tapping on the + button

Where can I place my Hue Secure contact sensor?

You can use a Hue Secure contact sensor indoors within range of your setup. We recommend placing the magnet — the smaller piece of the sensor — on the part of the door or window that moves, so the door or window itself. Place the sensor itself on the door or window frame. You can place the magnet to the left or right of, or above, the glossy part of the sensor. we don't recommend installing it on steel or magnetic surfaces (such as speakers) because they can affect the sensor's performance. Be sure there's enough space around the sensor to remove it if you need to replace the battery. We recommend you test out the sensor before you permanently mount it

So this product is pretty cool. I did already have Philips hue lights therefore I did not need a bridge. This is a pretty contraption and I added it to my HomeKit. But I don’t really see a full reason as of why someone would buy this. Unless they are buying it to automate their lights to turn on when they open the door but I personally would not want the lights to turn on when I open the door, I would rather have it turn on before I get home. Cool concept but I dont know what else I would use it for.

Rly solid contact sensor from Philips Hue! It’s great for monitoring door activity-alerts hit my phone instantly n it triggers my smart lights seamlessly when I walk in. Setting it up took less than 5 minutes since I just used the included adhesive strips to stick the sensor block on the frame and the smaller magnet piece onto the door. The connection was smooth n battery life seems great so far. Rly convenient n reliable smart home tech.5

I was really excited to try this. Especially because i’ve been interested in adding a little more smart security to my apartment. Unfortunately i wasnt able to fully experience the product because a hue bridge is required to use the sensor, and i didnt have one at home. The sensor itself seems very simple and well designed and i like that its wireless and easy to install.however since the Beidge an additional puschase, i couldnt actually set it up and test how well it works in real life

I've been looking for something like this and haven't been able to find it until now! This Secure Contact from Philips has helped me finally secure my French doors so I get immediately alerted if the magnetic seal is broken. It can link up to my lights and also set off an alarm if I choose. If you already have the Philips system, this is a perfect addition to add another tool for your piece of mind.

Great Philips hue product. Easy to install. My door is magnetic so it just sticks to the door. It’s great getting notifications when my front door is opened and closed.
