Bought these as we have a lot of GU10 lights in the house and opting for the usual high performance GU10s would be prohibitively expensive. I was aware that visibly the output would be an obvious mix of the individual primary colours needed to create the colour range but I have to say I was a little surprised at how obvious it is. BUT, the general light output and spread in the room is very good. Only when you look directly at the bulbs do you notice the individual colours. So, not as aesthetically pleasing as the more expensive Smart GU10s but they perform just as well in every other respect. I'll likley buy more for the rest of the house.

I have a very decent mixture of hue bulbs including these essential ones. Building up my collection over a number of years. After a kitchen refit last year I had a number of spotlights to change, due to the number required and the cost of normal Hue bulbs I chose these essential ones. I’ve found them to work well over the past year, they are usually use on a version of time indicated light, ie bright during the day getting warmer and dimmer in the evening. I use them with a hue dimmer switch and have used them on various multi coloured settings to suit mood and occasion, and they have been great. I’m methodical in my setting up and code each light carefully so that controlling them is easy. If you’re putting one in an outside lamp or something not easy to reach make a note of the code, you could even include this in your description ie Porch AE123 or whatever, so that if it does drop out, you don’t need to remove the bulb to check what the code is. I love my hue lights. I feel it’s unfair to rate these low, if the problem is with an individual not knowing how to set hue bulbs up.

Having spent over £3000 on Phillips Hue bulbs I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with how difficult it is to get them to connect to the Hue bridge, to label them and assign them to zones and rooms. So far it has been a complete waste of money, with only some bulbs showing, even if there are in the same room. My advise to anyone purchasing is to make sure you hang onto all packing as you'll need the QR codes. Something we failed to do amongst all the fitting during the build process on our home.
